This website is dedicated to Ludwig Hain
Ludwig Hain started in WWII as flight mechanic of a Ju 52. Later he became Pilot and was based in norway. Because of shortage of material in 1944/45, they could not accomplish many missions. So in his free time, he accompanied a german navy group to salvage sunken aircraft to get the needed spare parts for his Luftwaffe unit. After a while, he was offered to do a navy diver course himself, a first step in the fascinating underwaterworld. After the war in the early fifties he used his knowlegde as pilot and professional diver: He founded the leading salvage company in southern germany named "Hain und Schuster". This company was the reason, i was diving unsuccessfully for years in bavarian lakes looking for aircraft wrecks. Ludwig Hain has already salvaged almost every available underwater wreck in bavaria before i was even born. In spring 2009 i have had the chance to meet Mr. Hain to exchange some experiences and i obtained his photo collection with pictures of all the salvaged aircrafts i was searching underwater for so long. Finally, it is not only important to know, where a aircraft crashed in the sea, even more important is the question: Already salvaged? So despite my almost 500 useless dives i dedicated this website to him. Ludwig Hain died in June 2009.
